it’s challenging and I was sweating after 1 song~
Highly recommended for cardio at home. Doesn’t take a lot of room and it’s so much fun! (this goes for all the Zumba games for Wii)
As I expressed in the last couple text posts I’ve written, I’ve had a pretty rough time in December. I got a little better then it all went to bloody shambles again.
Even if it wasn’t a second away from the new year I would take a moment right now to recommit to everything that I started last year around this time! So that means eating well and exercising again.
I look back on this year and I think to myself: why haven’t I made as much progress as I feel I should have? Like, I’m pretty sure I’ve lost some weight or gained muscle or something but I see people do amazing things in 6 months and I’m like: umm…
I’ve come to the conclusion that aside from my portion distortion (lol, clever!), I really think I’m doing a lot more than I actually am. In order to rid myself of this habit, my husband and I have come up with the idea of putting post it notes on the door every time we exercise with how long and what we did. We have designated colors so it can be kinda like a fun competition thing! He also suggested that we put a post it note on the door every time we go out too, so we can visually see how much we do and how much we spend. I think that will allow us to finally stray away from bad food that’s not really food.
Another thing I need to address is Zumba. At the beginning of 2012 I loved Zumba! I wanted Zumba everything! Zumba was life! I was going to classes at least twice a week, if not more! But when the instructor I’m friends with split from the place I frequent Zumba, I felt a certain amount of loyalty to stay with her. Unfortunately, she uses the same music/same moves over and over again regardless of the song and after I’d learned all the choreo, I started to get bored. And when things didn’t work out with coteaching the class, my ego was a little bit bruised and I just kinda stopped going to classes all together. Then I realized Zumba is a money grubbing company so I got irritated at that which made me not want to go even more. I’ve gradually started going back to classes and every time I do I’m like: wtf, why do I wait so long to come back? I love this! And Mel (the person I stopped going to because I felt loyalty to another) is such an excellent instructor—her choreography is fresh and different and CHALLENGING. I love that!
And that’s the thing—Zumba isn’t about trendy clothing, or other brand name things—it’s about the freaking EXERCISE. I LOVE Zumba as a work out! I love dancing in general! And I love the fact that I’m licensed to teach this glorious, super fun activity! So in 2013 I’m going to strive to find a place to teach again because it’s about high time I get back on my horse.
There are also a bunch of other non-fitblr related things I’m going to work at in 2013—2012 was my base, 2013 will now be where I start to build, to push myself. I have no idea where I’ll end up—hopefully happier and healthier! That’s all I could even ask for.
Oh. Expect to see me here at least once a day~
so I’m going to the Gina & Tanya Rock the Stage Tour on Friday and I just learned that you’re not allowed an outside waterbottle (you have to BUY it there) AND there are no post class photos.
So basically I paid $40 to go to a regular Zumba class with “popular” instructors.
I am SO unhappy right now. I could go to 8 regular Zumba classes that I KNOW I enjoy for that price. AND bring my own water! HAHAHAHA.
Don’t get me wrong, Zumba is great EXERCISE and I love being an instructor and I will ALWAYS continue to go to classes I enjoy. But I refuse to buy anymore merchandise from them, nor take anymore Jam sessions, ect. Money grubbers.
omgjanelleisfit-deactivated2013 asked: hi :) i just started zumba classes (i've done 3 so far!) and i love them! however, i feel like i'm not improving on the moves and that distracts me from concentrating on breathing or enjoying the workout. any tips for beginners of zumba? thank you! and congrats on subbing 3 classes! i wish i could take one from you :)
Fake it and shake it!!! If you can’t do a specific move, it’s okay to just move! Nobody’s looking at you, trust me. They’re all concentrating on themselves, especially if it’s a challenging class!
It will take longer than 3 classes to get used to the moves (it took me 2 months to get a specific turn when I started a live class at the beginning of the year), especially if it’s your first time! Do not get discouraged!!! You’re there to have fun and even if you’re not executing the moves exactly like your instructor, you’re still using energy, sweating, and burning calories!!!
Zumba’s not like yoga, you don’t really have to concentrate on your breathing. If you breathe hard, it’s okay. That’s what cardio is supposed to do :].
And don’t be afraid to lower the intensity of a move. Sometimes instructors will add a little hop at the end of a v-step or really push into the ground so the bounce back for a forward tap. It’s quite alright to eliminate that hop and to just tap instead of bounce. (hopefully that makes sense!)
Always, ALWAYS stay hydrated too! I have a maraca sound after every 2 songs to signal water, but you do NOT have to wait for it. Heck, I drink after every single song and I’m the instructor :]
All and all, don’t let the moves get you down. Give it time and you’ll gradually start getting it!!! And you just told me the most important reason not to give up! YOU LOVE IT!!!!
P.S.: If your near Berks Co, PA, you can! Hahahaha!!! XD
I can face for a lot of songs now! And I choreoed a new song for this week!!! :]]
